Jason Excellent video on streamer tying. I have got to get you to show me how to do some basic tying. I think I got off to a bad start at the Bass Pro Shop. The guy meant well but it is difficult to give attention to just one person when you are teaching a class to a dozen. I really need to learn how to tie, because I feel I could really benefit from tying my own flies. As for the Muddler, it help me catch the largest blue gill I have ever caught. I forgot to mention in my post that I broke off once with one Muddler and never saw the fish. I think it was a largemouth. One of the guys at the dock told me he had caught catfish on the Muddler. So who knows it could have been a catfish that inhale the fly. This was the first time I had ever fish the fly. I notice right off that I had to do more false casting than I wanted to, so I loaded the fly with some floatant and that help cut down on the false casting. I found out after fishing it for a while that the fish would take it just as well under water as above. In fact the under water hit was the break off. I am really sold on the fly, because it just looks fishy. I think the streamer you tied in the video would be a killer on Smith Lake for the spots. I would like for you to show me how to tie some when we come up B.T’s. By the way have you heard about the Caney? The construction is having an effect on the trout. We will be coming up in 2 or 3 weeks and I hope we can get together and hit the Caney or the Elk. I really enjoyed the video.
I read a book called the steelhead guide and this was one fly that he said you must have. From that point on i can honestly say that i use it everwhere. I would love to show you some basic things once you learn a few basic flies you can tie most anything. I learned from my grandpa the basics but have expanded mostly from trying new things. There is also a fly tying show on public televesion on saturdays that i record and watch. Let me know and we can plan something soon real soon.
